Our Mission and Values

The web services developed within the CLARIN-PL infrastructure are available under an open licence for all researchers and students. These solutions are primarily intended for the humanities and social sciences, though they can be applied in any research area. Our main speciality is the Polish language, but we are also open to international and multilingual projects. CLARIN provides universal tools for natural language analysis, as well as language resources and source materials.

Additionally, through CLARIN-PL-Biz , we collaborate with companies and other organisations interested in leveraging language technologies on commercial terms.

1.

Innovation

We work daily to ensure that our products not only meet current standards but also set new quality benchmarks. We are open to experiments as long as they lead to valuable results.

2.

Professionalism

Collaboration with us is based on clearly defined rules. Our team consists of members from academic and business backgrounds who can meet the demands of various types of projects.

3.

Equal Opportunity

Regardless of budget, academic degree, or research team size, everyone is treated equally and can expect appropriate support. Our support for academic communities is entirely free, while business collaboration is conducted on commercial terms.

4.

Development

Building language technologies from scratch requires significant financial and time investment. CLARIN-PL allows users to build upon existing solutions, helping to develop the infrastructure collaboratively and enhance the long-term competitiveness of Polish companies in both local and global markets.

5.

Human Relationships

People are the foundation of CLARIN-PL. Here, you can count on knowledge sharing, experience exchange, and long-term partnerships.

What they say about us

" Współpracujemy z zespołem CLARIN od 2021 roku w ramach projektu naukowego Narodowego Centrum Nauki OPUS „COV-WORK: Świadomość społeczno-ekonomiczna, doświadczenia pracy i strategie radzenia sobie Polaków w kontekście kryzysu post-pandemicznego.” Narzędzia CLARIN-PL umożliwiają nam zbieranie korpusu danych w pakiecie pracy poświęconym medialnemu obrazowi pandemii w sferze pracy. Jesteśmy przekonani, że nasza współpraca to doskonały przykład badań interdyscyplinarnych, o bardzo dużym potencjale poznawczym.

Structure

CLARIN-PL i CLARIN ERIC

CLARIN-PL consists of six Polish scientific units that produce electronic language resources and tools for working with extensive text collections. These include:

Politechnika Wrocławska – lider projektu
Instytut Podstaw Informatyki PAN
Uniwersytet Łódzki
Uniwersytet Wrocławski
Instytut Slawistyki PAN
Polsko-Japońska Akademia Technik Komputerowych

CLARIN ERIC is a pan-European consortium that provides legal status to infrastructures from member countries. It includes representatives from the ministries of the consortium countries.

CLARIN members independently decide on their contributions to the development and expansion of the infrastructure.

However, they are required to implement accepted standards ensuring:

Interoperability

(mutual compatibility) of the tools and resources that make up CLARIN

Availability

resulting from publicly accessible services

Sustainability

CLARIN is an infrastructure, not a time-limited project

CLARIN Centres – Knowledge Nodes

The core units forming the CLARIN structure are centres that provide clearly defined services:

  • Type B Centre – this is the primary infrastructure node maintaining language processing services, computing facilities, and data repositories integrated with the European CLARIN infrastructure;

  • Type C Centre – this type of institution collaborates with the infrastructure by providing specific metadata (e.g., related to specialised language resources);

  • Type K Centre – Knowledge Sharing Centres are responsible for disseminating knowledge about the infrastructure’s activities: they form a network of specialist teams supporting specific research projects. At Type K centres, users can report infrastructure issues, receive expert help, or ask questions about using the infrastructure.

Polish CLARIN Node

  • The Language Technology Centre (Polish CLARIN node) operates at Wrocław University of Science and Technology. It provides registered users with free access to language tools and resources available both in Poland and at CLARIN centres in other member countries.

  • The primary function of the Centre is to maintain and provide access to software tools, data resources, and machines with adequate computational power. These elements form the essential infrastructure necessary for language processing; they are provided and developed by all units within the CLARIN-PL consortium.

CLARIN centre certification follows strictly defined guidelines and standards.
Our centre holds the following statuses:

b-center-label

Type B Centre

we have the technical infrastructure ensuring the operation of text processing services.

CLARIN-PL B Centre Certificate Core Trust Seal Certificate for our D-space repository
k-center-label

Type K Centre – PolLinguaTec

we provide substantive support and technical assistance from highly qualified specialists.

Additionally, as the only centre within the entire CLARIN ERIC consortium, we have initiated collaboration with companies investing in artificial intelligence.

Advisory Council

Council Members:

Following the recommendation of the Ministry of Education and Science, the CLARIN-PL Advisory Council serves as a consultative body. Its role is to suggest new research directions for CLARIN-PL and to assess the current state of the infrastructure from the perspective of its applications in the humanities and social sciences.

Funding

The CLARIN project was launched with financial support from the European Commission, and it is currently fully funded by the member countries of the consortium. In Poland, the administrative body financing the activities of the CLARIN-PL Language Technology Centre is the Ministry of Education and Science.

CLARIN-PL

The project is financed under the Programme "Inteligentny Rozwój 2014-2020, Priorytet IV : Zwiększenie potencjału naukowo-badawczego, Działanie 4.2": Development of Modern Research Infrastructure in the Science Sector, project number POIR.04.02.00-00C002/19, "CLARIN – Common Language Resources and Technological Infrastructure". The funding aims to provide Polish academic and business communities with world-class tools, resources, and natural language processing services.

As part of the 'Support for the participation of Polish research teams in international research infrastructure projects' programme funded by the Ministry of Education and Science, non-commercial research activities of CLARIN-PL are financed.
